College Application Consulting
Step 1: Build the College List- The tutor will work with the student to develop a list of safety, target, and reach colleges that meet the student's wants and needs.
Step 2: Request Recommendations- The tutor will help the student decide who to ask for letters of recommendation from and help them make the requests.
Step 3: Request Transcripts and Test Scores- The tutor will help the student request official high school transcripts and if applying to non-test optional schools that official test scores are sent to the colleges.
Step 4: Complete the College Application- Most colleges accept either the Common App or Coalition and the tutor will work with the student to complete and submit all parts of these applications.
Step 5: Complete the College Resume and Activity List- A major part of both the Common App and the Coalition is the Activity List. Additionally, many colleges ask the student to submit a resume. The tutor will work with the student to create an activity list and resume that frames their achievements and extracurricular activities in the best light possible.
Step 6: Write the Common App/Coalition Main Essay - Almost all colleges require the submission of the main college essay. The tutor will work with the student to craft a stand-out and compelling essay starting with brainstorming sessions and ending with a thoroughly edited and well-polished final product.
Step 7: Write the Supplemental Essays- Often each college requires between 1-10 supplemental essays in addition to the main essay. The tutor will work with the student to research and write unique and dynamic responses to each supplemental essay question.
OPTIONAL:
Step 8: Apply for Scholarships- The tutor can help the student apply for internal and external scholarships.
Step 9: Prepare for College Interviews- Some colleges offer or even require an interview. The tutor will work with the student to prepare for the interview by conducting research, preparing a note sheet, and practicing a mock interview.
